Because they believe that everyone is entitled to an opinion and everyone has rights. Unlike republicans who are fanatical about their viewpoints and expect everyone else to either think the way they do or abide by it.
Fanatics are passionate about their beliefs and don't think or care that someone else may have a different opinion. Liberals just want to have a choice ~ and not be forced to abide by conservative's "morals".
Because they don't want to shove their ideas and opinions down everyone else's throat, and because they don't have a passionate opinion one way or the other, they are portrayed as wishy washy.
Having said all that - I don't like any politicians. They are all corrupt and they are all out for number one. I guess I would rather live in a world where I have a choice and a say in my life ~ as opposed to being forced to live by someone else's standards.

Good Question As a liberal, I feel bombing civilians centers is immoral. The Democrats voted for your war. So your right. Why don't the Democrats stand up and protest the destruction of hospitals, schools, libraries, sewage systems? My Step Father served in the Battle of the Bulge defending Democracy and came back from Auschwitz a liberal. He stood up. The argument is not conservative vs liberal but Democratic Capitalism vs. Military Industrialization.

Because primarily what they are peddling is communism packaged under the word Democracy or Democrat. It won't sell to the American public so they keep scrambling for new definitions for an old, unviable system of government. For a good example of this, check your history and find out how many communists operated in FDR's administration and helped push all his socialist agendas and create more and more government. Now there's an eye-opener!

They are standing for what they believe in. They believe in whatever they think will give them more power, fame, pleasure and wealth. And they will, and do, fight for what they believe in. The reason they can get away with this is that most liberals would never vote for a Republican, no matter now corrupt and self-serving a Democrat may be opposing him, simply because he is a Republican. Enough said.

I actually thought this of Republicans, I am always willing to debate them, but they always seem to shy away rom it. They never have any real facts and seem to base their beliefs on others' beliefs instead of logic or evidence. I think Democrats and leftists tend to actually listen to the other side of the story more, something someone like yourself may for some reason consider giving in or conceding. I stand by my convictions until my dying day, and I know exactly where I stand, just because you ran into a couple uninformed mindless followers does not mean one of these days you won't run into someone who knows exactly what he or she is talking about and is willing to debate you on every point, but I am willing to bet you won't listen.

That's what they believe in. Don't take a stand on anything unless it's against the Republican stand. Make the Republicans make all the decisions and then stand against every decision they make in order to try and make themselves look good.
I'm not even a Republican.

because they make false promises to gain political power then once they have the power they screw everyone else to keep the power and gain more. Then they try to shut out everyone else who opposes them. To them only there opinion counts and any one who stands against them must be wrong. They need to open there eyes to the rest of the world.

I wouldn't say they back down or don't take a stand...but they understand that people are entitled to their viewpoints and aren't going to try to force someone to believe what they believe

yeah... Republicans always stick to their guns..
(Bush after 9-11: "finding Osama is my No.1 priority...
Bush six months later in March of 02... "I don't care where Osama is")...
you clearly have a point...
but I guess Republicans only back down from unimportant issues like terrorism...

Many of us do take an active, vocal and continuous stand... unfortunatly most right-wing conservatives refuse to listen if it doesn't suit their way of thinking.
