Ever see the movie Equilibrium - (2002)
Following an apocalyptic third World War, the strict government of the dystopian city-state Libria has eliminated war by suppressing all human emotion.
In the monochromatic and sedate society, artifacts from the old world (works of art and music that may evoke some emotion) are destroyed and the population is required to take sedatives.
Grammaton Cleric Preston, a man trained to locate and arrest those guilty of feeling emotions, finds himself abandoning the drug and experiencing outlawed feelings. As he struggles to conceal his feelings from his superiors, colleagues, and family, Preston finds himself drawn into a sinister world of double-crossings and lies, and becomes an unwitting pawn in a sophisticated plot which ultimately changes the repressed society forever.

We all have the right to do what we want, say what we want, and display what we want, within the bounds of reasonable social law. Basically, if something you want to put out there is so inflamatory that it will cause a great deal of social disorder, than any good it may cause is greatly outweighed by the bad. Therefor, a cencorship board can keep you from displaying it for the greater social good. Unfortunately, we are all human, and boards do make mistakes. They sometimes cencor good things, and allow bad things to be displayed. In my opinion, a picture of a crucifix submerged in urine does not count as art, yet someone thought it did, and let it be displayed. I think that's bull$#@!, but others thought it was good.
With no cencorship, our society would tear itself apart because there are always people who like nothing better than to offend everyone around them for no reason. With too much, the same result happens, but because there would be revolt from a lack of freedom.

In today's culture Censorship is a must in rearing children. We exploit and exaggerate life to entertain and inform.
With that being said, NO BOARD should decide what a child should see or hear. That is up to the parents to decide.
When I was 17 I saw my best friend shot himself in the head. It was devastating. I was paralyzed for a good 2mins or so. This paralysis was onset by the shock of the actual physical scene. Had movies been as graphic back then as they are now, the shock would have been purely psychological and not physical. It's good to know what's out there, and important to no what to expect.

Censorship is wrong, it's unconstitutional, Its only allowed because we allow it. Freedom of expression isn't there to protect popular expression, or intelligent expression it's there to protect unpopular and stupid expression. What if your beliefs suddenly became unpopular, how would you feel if what you said/wrote/painted/drew was suddenly illegal.
All those who advocate censorship remember. At one time criticizing the govt was illegal.
And to those who say censorship is necessary to protect children. It is a parents job to protect their children not antone else's. Quit pushing your responsibility on everyone else.
