I have links below to pictures of this thing. I have no idea what it is. A friend told me it may be a baby bat, but I see 4 legs (which bats don't have.) It looks like a bug of some sort to me. Any ideas would be helpful. I live in western Virginia... (Blacksburg) if that helps. Thanks All!

Can't really tell what it is, your pics are rather fuzzy! Image 13, the wings (if that's what they are) appear moth-like, and the pair of legs (again if that what they be) protruding downward, appear thin like that of an insect. I think I see a third leg on image 13, and image 16 appears to show 4 legs. It looks like a segmented abdomen on the rest of the images as well.

If this had 6 legs total (from your pics either 2 legs aren't apparent, or perhaps were lost), it is definitely an insect, probably a moth of some sort. To find out more about what it is, catch it in an empty glass jar and maybe bring it to one of the bug guys at VA Tech, or check a local bookstore for any of the field guides available (Peterson's, Audubon Society, etc).

I'm sorry I can't recommend anyone in particular as I didn't go to school here in VA, and I work mainly with aquatic invertebrates for a private consulting company in Blacksburg (small world).

It looks like a cecropia moth that is still "inflating" its wings; if it has recently pupated from the larval stage, it still needs to expand its wings and set them.

The second image is the best; you can see the fuzzy legs, and the form of the wings.

Check images.google.com for what cecropia moths look like. It's a similar color, and the shape is right.

Sorry, it looks like a bird with a very long beak.
It does not resemble a bug nor a bat to me. Good Luck!

It looks like a moth.... perhaps a lunar moth, they get big... but honestly from your photos it could also be the Loch Ness monster... I really can't tell.

It is a type of moth, but I can't remeber what it is called. If I figure it out, I will post it later. So check back later...
