Syd, unfortunatlly died of comlications of type 2 diabetes. He was 60 years old and the youngest member of pink floyd ever. "Shine on you Crazy Diamond"...was written years after the last stage performance { 4syd} last show,he shaved his head, put gel on it..and stuck qualudes on the stiky stuff. As the heat of the house lights melted the medication...syd stood there thru the entire show. He never played a single note. WE will miss you SYD!!!!!SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND

Syd Barrett did not die from an overdose. He died from diabetic complications.

To me it was Roger Keith Barrett who died on July 7, 2006 due to complications with diabetes.
"Syd" will live forever.

I know he was into LSD heavy. I know he visited Pink Floyd in the studio when they were making "Wish You Were Here" and did not even realize that the song "Shine on you crazy diamond was a tribute to him. Check out his name on a search engine and you'll find out. I wasn't even aware that he was dead but OD sounds probable.
