It's perfectly normal for a 3 month old to eat every four hours - especially if he's sleeping through the night. If he still seems hungry, give him more formula - not cereal or any other solid food. 4-6 months is the accepted age for starting solids. I have an 8 month old who is breastfed and he eats every 2-3 hours plus he eats three solid food meals a day and has snacks!!!! But he also sleeps through the night so I'm not complaining! Putting cereal in a bottle (as someone else mentioned) is not only unnecessary, but may also be unsafe.

This is a very touchy subject. Most moms want to "be right". My duaghter has always had a HUGE appetite. I was feeding her every 2-3 hours and then she would spit up because she eat so fast!!! Our peditriican put her on rice cereal at 6 weeks. YES LADIES, SIX WEEKS. The American Academy of Peds suggest rice cereal for even premmies that have acid reflux.

She started viggies when she was around 4 months then fruits after that. My ped. suggest solids if the baby is healthy and eating to much formula because that can cause an overly large baby. PLUS, every baby is different and that is A LOT of forumla.

I would call the doctor for an appt. Your doctor knows your son. And you can figure what is best for YOUR baby. :-)

My son was the same way when i first brought him home from the hospital. I had a c-section and when we finally came home he would scream for more to eat when he finished his bottle. If i game him more formula he would vomit. So i tried some of the Gerber first foods with him when he was only 2 weeks old and it did the trick. He was eating 2 jars of that a day and his formula and he was fine. He was a happy baby and never did get overweight because of the extra food. The thing that scared me was when my grandmother started giving him table food at 3months old. I about freaked out but he liked it and everything was OK. So i guess you could say that its OK for some and not OK for others. My son just happened to be one of the ones that it worked really well for. Just make sure to try the really light things first and make sure its Gerber first foods....they are strained more than the other baby foods. Hope this helps.

I would hold off until he's at least 6 months. That's the recommendation even for cereal. Breast milk or formula is supposed to be the main food source for the first year. If he's still hungry, give him more milk. I would personally hold off on the cereal a little longer too. Every 4 hours is doing pretty good. Some babies eat that much every 2 or 3 hours. Their bodies aren't equipt to suck the nutrients out of food yet. Milk is much better for them. God Bless

I would say its way to soon for baby foods....In babies that young some foods have acids in them that can cause your baby to get very gasy, and this will hurt his stomach and will only be very grumpy. The cereal and milk should be enough, but make sure not to make the cereal to thick, try to thin it out a bit! This may also be his problem....The thick cereal could be hurting his tummy and making him think he is still hungry. But maybe try some baby food fruits, such as pears, strawberries, or blueberries, and mix a little bit in with his cereal, otherwise start giving him more formula. Good luck!

I would give my daughter 1/2 a little jar of baby food at 3 months just so she could be full and sleep well. I would sometimes mix the cereal with it so it would be thicker because the food is so watery. Or you can just add it to his formula in his bottle just a little so it's thicker and he will last longer till his next bottle.

A baby--no matter how big, no matter how hungry, no matter how mature--*cannot* digest anything but human milk before he is 6 months old. Formula is the *only* acceptable alternative. Before he is at least 6 months old, he should not be having cereal, fruits, water, or anything else. It can cause serious harm to him *throughout* his life (so "he seems fine" does *not* mean it's okay!!). Every health organization worldwide has said *no* solids of *any* kind before 6 months old. If your pediatrician said it's okay, then she/he is going against her/his own professional organization and possibly endangering your baby.

if he seems like he is still hungry then i would say try some of the stage 1 foods...the meats are nasty and stink i wouldnt recommend them...start with the veggies and see how that goes....once he is eating the veggies pretty well then try to add in a few fruits but when doing so make sure to feed veggies before. you dont want him to get use to the sweet taste of the fruit cause it may cause him to reject the veggies....good lucky and i hope this helps

my daughter turns 1 in a week and is now on table food and this technique worked for her

for snacks you can always try the new gerber puffs they come in sweet corn, sweet pot, banana, ect and dissolve in their mouth

babies really shouldn't start solids until 4-6 months old. Their digestive systems are immature. I can't believe how much your baby takes to eat, it seems like a lot. But who knows maybe my baby eats to little, she only drinks about 5-6 oz bottle at 7 months.
