I had this same problem and did not discover it till after the pool was filled. So I called a friend of mine and he went to a hardware store and bought some special sort of glue. Just explain to the person the problem at the hardware store or wherever it is you shop. This glue you can apply to vinyl, rubber and many other things. You can apply it while the surface is wet.
Now here is the fun part. you have to find someone who will go in the pool and take the tube and squeeze the stuff and put it over the holes. If you are just filling the pool then the water is going to be so cold brrrrrrrrrrr. Or else this works also for filling holes in the bottom of the pool Once the patch glue is applied, use a thick layer. Then take the sticky clear patch and cut it to size. But bigger then the hole. Then you have to go and apply this to the glue and hold it in place a couple of minutes. You can always stand on it with your foot to hold it and place. I guarantee this works. I have one of the pools that look like rubber to vinyl. The ones that get bigger as they feel. I have had to do this the last three years. I have never had to redo a hole. I am not quite sure of the name but make it is a water proof sealant. It costs under five dollars. And it beats going out and buying another pool. This stuff works inside and outside the pool even in water.

Hello Porky, haven't seen you around for a while! I have a pond that's about 2m x 1m x 600mm deep and it's been losing around 5cm a day to evaporation over the last week or so because of the high temps (up to 40 in Melbourne, but very dry atmosphere too). 20cm sounds like too much. Perhaps you could try covering it with a tarp and see if the evaporation is reduced? Or surround it with a tarp tucked under the concrete to catch any wicking that might be happening. We once had a problem with ours when one of the fish must have bumped the fountain thingy and it ended up shooting water out of the pond but at the back and down low. We only noticed it when the pond was almost drained dry. Poor fish, they survived it, but only just. Edit: I in no way condone the theft of fish from public ponds. Shame on you.

If you mean the vinyl liner, it's easy. Go the your local pool supply place and get a patch kit. They run about $8-ish. You can apply patches even in water, just read and follow the instructions carefully. I have a vinyl lined in-ground pool, and this worked for me.

Patch/repair kits that have an adhesive that you can use underwater. I just did 4 patches on mine, and it stopped them. It's easy to do and not expensive at all. You just may not be able to use the pool for about a day

Yes under water patch..

but if you have plumbers putty hanging around, you can use it to temporally patch it until the next year (if you drain it down past the hole). I had to do this and it works great. I do have a patch kit but I will wait until the winter to do it. I figure that it might last longer if done when it is dry :o).
