I am going to be laid off from my job at the end of July. I have been making $5750 per month gross. How much money could I expect to collect in California with unemployment? I have heard that it is half your salary, I have also heard that there is a maximum amount that they will pay. Any answers are appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure about CA but in IA they will pay 80% of what you were making. I think they will only go up to a certain amount though.

It's definately not half of your salary. It's based how long you worked at your job and yes there is a max amount, but im not sure what it is.

You can bet it's not anything near what you might think. So rather than use your unemployment, put yourself to work. Start looking to start your own business. If you find something you enjoy, it will be much more rewarding than living off the government.

Step up and make a decision to be productive. Can you?
