I know I'm qualified and competent but really suck at interviews.

Practice with someone before the real interview. If they didn't want to actually hire you (or someone else) you wouldn't be talking to them so go in knowing that they WANT to hire YOU.

Interviews truly make up a lot more than an impressive resume. For example, if on paper you have two very qualified candidates and one presented him/herself better in an interview, who would you choose?

What I suggest to you is to keep practicing your interview skills with family and friends until you get over the nervousness.... and you can always imagine some of the common questions they may ask and then come up with how you may answer them. Also... before the interview, make a list of your skills. You'll never know if a question like "Why do you think you are qualified for this job?" comes up.

I'm the same way. I've been on over a dozen interviews with reputable companies and rejected by all. You should just be yourself, because if you're not yourself then you'll never be happy in what you do for a career.

Try this website. I had to do a speech in front of my peers while being assessed and I blew it. Then I sought assistance from my local Toastmasters and have never looked back. Practice, practice, practice...I hope this helps. Interviews are a chance to blow your own Trumpet!
