Don't freak out. It *could* be meningitis (if you feel like you have a migraine with light and sound sensitivity and a fever and are nauseous go check it out as soon as possible), or something to do with your spine, but most likely you slept wrong or turned in such a way that your already primed to mess up neck did (usually most people have something slightly out of line that acts up if they don't stretch or move properly). If it happens all the time, I would get it looked at, too. But in the meantime, if none of those things apply, place heat on it and don't force it to straighten or move in any way it hurts. Periodically test the painful position to see if it is easing up, but stop if it's very painful. It should clear up in a day.

You should consider wearing a lighter hat.

If the symptons still persevere, you could consider having your neck shortened which should make it far easier to keep it straight.

depending how bad is the pain, how long you are having the pain, and when you carry things do you feel pain and etc.

if short term pain, its most likely a muscular problem. you can get fastum gel from the pharmacy. it really helps a lot.

if its chronic pain, you should consult your doctor. and get an x-ray done. my ex-bf got an x-ray done and got really shocked when he saw the film.
