I have heard a lot of bad thing about SOME (not all) modelling agencies and how they make you pay for photos and photo sessions before they take you on then never give you any work. Always check with the local Better Business Bureau.
I think a better starting place before you go to agencies is if you have a friend who is reasonable with a camera (do not have to be a professional) Just take 100 photos of yourself in different poses, clothing and backgrounds then pick out 10-20 nice photos. You can then use this as a portfolio, and even better instead of printing them which cost you money every time, host them on a website and get some business cards print with the website address on and just hand these out instead. This is a far cheaper way of doing it and with no RISK.
However if you would like a personal portfolio site please contact me and I will set you on up for free. I can design you a fully personalised flash website with as much or little information and then host it for you. This site can contain a gallery of your photos, personal information, list of work, contact details, etc or if you prefer just a couple of photos and nothing else. It can be password protected and all images will be protected as is humanly possible, or the photos can be available to download.
Examples of work can be provided on request. Just message me here if you want, I am a professional website designer but have lots of free time (and enough money) so I am currently doing free sites for small bands, small artist etc, basically anyone who could not afford them otherwise. I have my own hosting server so can offer hosting servers or you can host the site yourselves. No images sent to me will be used for anything other than your site and I will not give anyone your detail or link to the site. You will have complete control and the site can be removed or changed at any time. This is not a scam and I will design a site for FREE, I do not need the money, and enjoy working. If you do want it message me you can tell me what you want and how you want it done and I will help.

YES!!!!! you need an agent. The client does not call you for a job, they call the agency that represents you. well first you should start with grooming yourself and finding a "look". Then find a modeling agency that can represent you. You need a portfolio.
Well besides that you need to have tough skin, because you will be regected a lot. You will need the drive, confidence.
Having the Height and weight is only the beginning, but a good start.
The more stricter part:
for a high fashion model: Waist:22-25" Hips: no more than 35" Height: no shorter than 5'8" unless you are Heidi Klum she is 5'7" 108-122 lbs.
For editorial models: about the same, but the height can be adjusted a couple of inches.
Good luck, it is a very hard business, and you will not always have success.

Use yahoo to search up a local modeling agency in your area! I'm sure there are a lot. Also, Model Scouts often walk around the mall scouting for models. I got scouted once and we made an appointment to meet. You don't NEED an agent. Start modeling with a company first! Like Susan Page Modeling. They'll help you start your profolio. It may cost a lot but if you have the passion then I suggest to go for it!

First go to a modeling school, learn all the steps, make up and some acting sketches.
Make a book of your best photo shoots.
Get hired in a modeling agency, they have already agents to their campaigns.
Get a clear contract about your tasks, don't accept any weird proposal & never accept a sexual proposal, its explosive.
Take care of your health & body, its your tool to work.
You will beggin with small catalogues and performances, the more you learn, the more you will be paid.
Don't be arrogant, stay pretty!

you have two choices..
1) find an agent that is visiting your area for a prescreening. (or go to an area where an agent is prescreening).
(if the agent likes you, they'll start helping you and training you, put you in modelling classes, and usually they'll represent you for a year...you'll usually just get small jobs like print ads or small runways.) some agents can be overlly expensive though.
2) try out for America's Next top Model..
hope this helps!!

buy yourself a slab of modeling clay...it comes in many colours and stiffness....you will also need some modeling tools....they come in many shapes and sizes....some are for fine detail, while others can be used for gouging.......and don't forget to use references so that your model looks as close as possible to what you are trying to copy.
