An x86 Mac. It will run Windows and MacOS and it should run many versions of Linux.
People need to understand that with the new Intel based Macs, there's really little difference between the two - it's more of an operating system debate now and no such debate could be fair if it didn't include Solaris and Linux as well.
What's best depends on YOU. What do you know? What do you want to do? People always say Macs are better at graphics... I don't buy it - they use the same hardware PCs use - they ARE PCs now.
If you've got the money, buy an Intel Mac because you can then run almost anything on it. If you don't, buy a PC - they are much lower priced because EVERYONE makes them.
And I don't know what people are talking about having Windows freezing up. Windows 95/98/Me froze up - they are AWFUL versions of Windows. NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista RARELY freeze up. I work on at least 4-5 computers per day running these systems - sometimes, I'll see more like 50 PCs in a day and Perhaps 2x a year to even HEAR of a PC freezing, forget experiencing it. Now, the problem is, people don't know what freezing is. If the mouse won't move and the numlock and caps lock keys don't light up, then THAT is a frozen system. If a PROGRAM locks up, that is the program freezing and 19 out of 20 times, it's poor programming on the maker of the program - not on Windows.

Mac commercials make you think that PC's are bulky, repetitive, and way behind. What's ironic is that Apple recently ditched IBM -- the decade-long manufacturer of their CPU technology. They balked at their original claim that IBM's CPU was superior, then switched to Intel and the "x86" platform. So much for being "unique" and "innovative". The move flat-out admitted that they're chasing the PC.
The truth away from the propaganda in their commercials is that there's nothing a Mac can do that a PC can't.
Though Macs are generally better out of the box, by no means are they more powerful. How can it be, especially now that's it has the same CPU? The debate isn't about the hardware anymore, it's about the operating system and software that's available for it. You will find more offerings with the Windows platform, and most importantly, it will be easier to find help from a friend, relative, or online when you need it.
Plus, if hardware in a Mac breaks down, good luck repairing it yourself. Most of what's in a Mac is "proprietary" (that means non-standard). With a PC, you can replace parts yourself for cheap and for the most part is easier to do. That's a side of the story you don't hear often. Buying replacement parts from Apple can get quite expensive.
Macs do have one thing going for them -- the MAC operating system. When compared to Windows, it's arguably easier to learn and navigate, and can be just as powerful to customize. For someone with little or no PC experience, it can be the better decision if you want to get started in multimedia (audio & video) right away. Also, there are a lot less threats and vulnerabilities to worry about, since it's not a big target right now by script kiddies and hackers. That will change soon though, as Apple gains more of the market share over time. But for now, it's a pretty good alternative in that respect.
Nothing against Mac's overall - just feel they're more of a pretty package with hidden maintenance costs.

Well now that the Mac has did some homework with its Operation System, It can now run PC programs(BUT ITS ONLY FOR THE NEWEST MAC) so go figure, now a PC is good for your typical uses and a Mac is good for graphics and its kinda hard to break a Mac where-as you can break a PC by clicking on the wrong website!! But also a Mac cost why ,much more than a PC( but the Mac gives you your moneys worth, so its worth the extra $$$) I love the Mac i wish i had a Mac for home use and not for studio use(such as Media-Music, Graphics, Movies) which it out performs the PC any giving day, and a Mac even has several USB ports, and Firewire port (witch is jus like USB but Faster) So Go Figure!!

Macs are better at EVERYTHING, not just graphics.
Macs are still around because they are good and worth the little bit extra you pay up front. Apple doesn't sell a stripped down computer that you then have to upgrade with bigger hard drive, more RAM, etc., etc. By the time you configure a PC to be equivalent to a basic Mac, they cost the same!
Windows is sooo popular because people are afraid of change, it's human nature. Don't be like the rest of the drones, think for yourself, try something different, try a Mac.

A PC is the best. Those MAC people just copied the PCs by putting the same hardware in. The only real difference is the OS. You can install Windows and Mac on a Mac, so this MUST mean that you can do that on a PC too right? HTey have the same hardware. You can buy either and switch. To swtich to Mac from PC, it will cost 130 bucks (OS X Tiger). To switch to PC form Mac, it will cost 110 bucks (WinXP HE OEM, 170 for not OEM). There is only on thing that will change, if you want to switch, the cost to you.

Oh my god! substitute to mac immediately away they are surprising! they are like 20 situations swifter ( not exaggerating ) and they have outfitted in firewalls that preserve your pc from viruses. I had a workstation and it lasted like a year and it replaced into sluggish after like 6 months then it crashed after a year. My mac is purely as quickly because it replaced into even as i purchased it and its very just about 2 years old! Plus you could benefit this a lot extra on a mac; you could record music, take videos and images with a outfitted in webcam, make superb videos and universal its purely extra valuable. living house windows is purely attempting to knock off each thing good about mac and that i'll inform you they have not executed a very good interest. i'd be extremely unhappy for you in case you kept your workstation or were given a sparkling workstation.

You just opened a can of worms 10x the size of Texas.
In my opinion, I perfer PC bacuase it is more user friendly. I have a PC and my brother has a Mac.
True, a PC is harder to set up but after the first two hours, you are on one your way. With a Mac, you will be ready to go immediatly but it takes weeks to get used to it.
And once you get used to it, it ain't compatible with squat. Dispite the 'young and hip' comercials, Macs aren't able to open documents from Windows and vice verca.
That's my two cents and i gotta go. Remember, that is one of the universes great unanswerable questions.

I've had both...with the mac it was really frustrating at times trying to get software, etc. As for PCs crashing, I've never had that happen. PC is the industry standard and in my opinion, will continue to be. They're cheaper, most software is made specifically for them and you can customize and configure any way you want. I'll never own another mac...

I read an artical in Consumer Reports that stated Apple as the the best home computer, followed by Dell. Both rated high in reliabilty and customer support.
