Why would anyone want to get married? There is absolutely no reason to get married. It adds nothing but a complicated way to end a relationship. Live together and call each other husband and wife. Does the marriage certificate validate the love you feel? Is the tax-breaks really worth it? Are you so insecure that you MUST own your partner legally?

Damn, I shoulda known the religious freaks would show up. Oh well, I can ignore those ones. Especially the one that says that her marriage would have fallen apart if they hadn't made their vows. Oh my, isn't that a reason to get married (NOT)!!

Another thing: If I love someone and commit myself to them, nothing means more than that, and wanting a marriage certificate to prove it is the same as my partner not believing and trusting me. And, if I choose to break my commitment, the marriage certificate isnt going to stop me.

i wouldn't give a rats but about the certificate as far as that goes it is the act of saying out loud in front of friends and family that you love this person and want to spend your life with them, this showing the faith YOU HAVE in the relationship that makes it stronger, you don't need the rings or the church or the paper you need that profession of your love that is THE BIG thing, just have a big party to do that or a nice sized dinner and the rest doesn't matter.the rest won't amount to a hill of beans.
it is simply the act of putting it out there, saying YOU ARE who I want to spend my life with that is the only part of the whole deal that really means anything, if you are willing to do that then you are right....marriage makes no difference.

If you feel this way than you shouldn't get married. I think you get married when you want to have children and yes I know the piece of paper's not necessary to pro-create but i personally think it's best for all involved. Marriage is not a religious contract it's a legal one and it's so important that gay people are fighting for the right. One tiny little note....if you're with someone you care for and you live together if either of you get sick or heaven forbid die the other person is treated like a stranger off the street. You can't act as your partners "voice" if they can't because you're nobody. That's why 2 actors got married....Sandra Bullock and Jesse James. He got very sick and was hospitalized and even though the lived together she was not given the same privileges as if she were his wife. So after this happened they got married.

People get married because they are in Love. Yes, a marriage certificate shows that the person loves you enough to commit themselves to you, it is a promise before God and man. It is not about insecurity, it is about how much you love the person. Women live with men because they hope that marriage is the next step.

For the ultimate commitment!! When one is committed it's a whole different scenario than just living together and so called saying you're man and wife. Then too, all the legal bounds to having it finalized on piece of paper is for a better good too.

People get married because they want their loved ones protected. People living together have no legal rights. If one person dies, they're estate does not go to their partner, it goes to their family. Also, the body doesn't go to their partner and the partner has no say what goes on with the funeral. Insecurity has nothing to do with it, wanting to protect the one you love is what marriage is about.

Perhaps your outlook on marriage is viewed through cynical eyes. Marriage is the bonding of one person to another before the eyes of God and man. If taken seriously, it's a commitment until death. My husband of 31 years and I took our vows seriously. Like others, we've had our difficult moments. But, being married and making a vow before God and man that we would love, honor and cherish one another forever is what has kept this marriage alive and together. Without it, our selfish nature would of separated us long ago.
I thank God for my husband!

You get married because you found 1 person who you know makes your life better and more complete. You marry legally to make a statement to your partner that you are committing yourself to them.
Yes, the tax breaks are really worth it... If you love them to the point of living with them.

It's not the ultimate sacrifice to show love, on the contrary, marriage is like a cage, boundaries are set up for u.

The "point" or "meaning", not the legality of marriage is based on religion 1st. If you don't believe or have faith in this you probably will not find the answer you are searching for.

It is the way I proved to my love that I would commit to her for life. I wouldn't have it any other way. No sex before marriage either, it's called respect.
We are 30 years in September.
