If you really think you can do it yourself then fine - but if you do it wrong then too bad. Make sure you have a CLAMP to clamp the skin or you will probably pierce it crooked and it will hurt WAY more. Clean the area with rubbing alcohol and soak the needle in alcohol overnight to sterilize it really well. After you pierce it, clean it when you shower with antibacterial soap and apply Mecca or Polysporin often, and turn in once in a while too. But if you can i would strongly suggest you get it done professionally. If you're too young ,some places don't ask for i.d or just ask for a parent or someone older present with you - try to find a place like that. Good luck.

p.s - if your friends always do it and they don't get infected, then why are you here asking the question..? Just ask your friends who obviously did it successfully without infection.

Don't do it yourself. I have pierced mine three time and they all became infected and I am a nurse. I got my forth one at a tattoo parlor and have had it for eight years. The state regulates health conditions and sterilization techniques. Spend the money on a professional not on antibiotics.

it's really not a good idea to pierce yourself...if you pierce too shallow, it will grow out and leave your belly button looking funny...if you pierce too deep, it will look bad...if you really want a belly ring, wait until you're 18 and take the $30 it costs to get it professionally done
