it depends on what kind of party you are having but I would stick with hip hop no one listens to "rock and roll" anymore

rock n roll is kinda old so mayb some pop and go to music. yahoo to look at the top 100. maybe u could buy some cds that have those songs!!! hope i helped and have a good time at ur party!!

It depends what sort of party you are having and the age groups of everyone and what they are in to.
You definitely want to play songs everyone knows, especially if it is just a drinking party. That way everyone can get drunk and sing along. Current songs, rock and hip hop are great for this depending on your group, as well as classic seventies rock songs and eighties new wave and pop.
Latino music is great to dance to and fun. Definitely upbeat for summertime.
Ethnic music of all nationalities, especially arabic, french, carribean, gypsy, east indian etc. is always great background music as well if it is more of a subdued, talk to everyone party.
Cater to your group and what they like and you should have fun!

Hire a DJ that takes requests. It's a little spendy but it's well worth it if you think of how much you'd spend on CD's that you won't reuse half of.
