gosh no. If a person want to wear their shoes, fine. If they want to kick them off, that is fine too. You can maintain a beautiful clean home without imposing a dress code on your guests. I think it is tacky to ask people to remove their shoes. Besides, many people have orthopedic or other related reasons to keep their shoes on.

No rule about wearing shoes or not inside our house. But we don't wear them. Lived in Florida for a long time and never wore shoes much, even outside unless going somewhere. Our guests can take off their shoes if they wish to, and some do. Personally, I do put on fresh socks for guests, and shoes when formally entertaining at home; so we're not entirely barbarians.

currently I do not as I am in the process of renovating. when I am finished with the renovations there will be a shoe rack there. you could either have a sign made that says something like shoes left here or no shoes beyond this point but I think that when I answer the door I am simply going to say well come on into the living room you can leave your shoes on the shoe rack to your left. that way the person will not feel uncomfortable if they make a mistake or wonder what to do they have been given instructions politely

I don't now but when I was growing up our house was. I was raised by my Grandmother and when you entered the door you took off your shoes. EVERYONE!!! Old people, repairmen, rich, and poor had to take their shoes off. When you walked in there was a landing and stairs leading up. The landing was "the shoe pit', well that's what I called it. I thought it was ridiculous when I was young but now that I've seen many people's homes it could have been worse. At least she didn't have plastic runners on the carpet or plastic cover on the chairs and sofa.

most asians that live in asia take their shoes off before entering a house. i would also make my guests remove their shoes even if they're foreigners. it's not nice to walk in with your shoes. it's dirty. other than that, i find it uncomfortable to walk in with your shoes on. so, if i want people to know about my house rules, i just tell them to take their shoes off first.

Yes I do have a shoes off house. I don't want my floors getting dirty. I let people know as soon as they come in. I politely ask them to take their shoes off and put them on the rug. I also have covers to put over shoes for maintnence people. No one has ever minded doing what I ask.
