If it was the 13yr old, she may have been testing being flirtatious, with someone she felt safe with or just trying to shock you. She may have actually really "liked" you and with all of the mixed messages young teens get these days about the opposite sex, she felt this was the way to show it. If it was the 10yr old, she may have been curious about the opposite sex, especially if one of the younger siblings was a boy, and she wanted to see a "grown-up" one. Either way, it is totally inappropriate for you to co-operate with their curiosity, so you did the right thing. I would make it very clear to them how inappropriate it is, don't even joke around. This is the kind of thing that can get out of hand OR just get very misconstrued and get you in a lot of trouble. If it happens again, I would definitely tell the parents. They need to know to protect their child from someone less protective than you next time the child gets curious.

It could be normal curiousity, but a 10 or 13 year old must know that this is NOT appropriate behavior, unless they are mentally disabled.

When there is a significant age difference in either direction at that stage in life (10 or 13), there is a serious potential for manipulation by the older. (A male her own age is more of a grey area and is an individual moral judgement.)

This could also be a sign that she has been abused in the past. If it happens again, I would tell her the moment that that sort of thing is unsafe and she should not be asking adults or notably older OR younger males that question. The kind of person who would do it, is probably the kind of person who would abuse her. (And if she does it to a much younger child, SHE is being potentially abusive.)

You should alert social services or talk to the counseler at her school to keep an eye on her. This will also protect you if she decides to make up a lie. I would NOT tell the parents since it may be abuse from one of them that has induced this behavior. Leave it to the professionals to look into it. Try to never be alone with her again.

Don't do it and definately tell the parents . It sounds like it's about time to get child centered books on sexuality. I know books may sound stupid but their a realy good resource(as long as mom and dad sit down with the kids to explain it) sometimes it's easier to use books rather than to stumble over your words. The only other thing that I can think of(and I realy hate the thought of this because I absolutly hate the very idea of it) but is it possible that abuse is in the picture?

Come on Chris, use common sense. Babysitting and Penis are two words that just don't go together. With all due respect, five year olds have a grip on what's right and what's wrong. Good luck to you.

Oh, by the way. In case you are wondering about the legality of this issue. Yes, it is illegal and you could end up in jail with a new hairy boyfriend named "Butch."

Any which way it would be considered abuse. You are the one in authority You are looking out for the best interest of the children. children don't understand implications of things. Think about it .... you are babysitting a friends kids.... you are alone in the house with a child and your penis is out of your pants....?! It is dangerous for you (you could be arrested, lose your friend..) it is dangerous for her (alarming, inappropriate, confusing, authority&trust issues, socialy wrong....)

if these kids are talking about seeing your penis then the parents need to know. if you are making refrences about your penis and that why these kids want to see it then thats wrong, you need to not be watching these kids, fitrst you are a male and kids are going to respect you as a babysitter , thats why they ask you discussting questions. i think you need to inform mom and dad and see where it goes from there.if you have to watch them again, dont talk about anything sexual or show them anything.it is wrong for you as a adult figure to show these kids anything on your body before letting the parents know about it.
