Use a chemical with its main ingredient of Pyrethrin (spelling). Can be found in Garden Safe products at the Home depot (Teal Blue Bottle). This is a botanical insecticide that is made from the crysanthimum (spelling again) flower. It is a potent insecticide and is much safer than using carbaryl (Sevin). You can use the Pyrethrin up to the day of harvest = just wash and eat. Sevin you must stop using about 10 days prior to harvest. It is more toxic.

You have tomato hornworms. They are hard to see in the daylight because they perfectly match the color of the plant.,Go out at night with a flashlight and they become apparent. Dont pick any off that have small white eggsacs on their backs, these are the eggs of the i cant remember the name wasp that the larva eat the hornworm. Let those worms live so that your biological controls =the wasp reproduce. You dont have to go so far as to put sevin dust on everything. Usually, if you have an infestation, theres only seven or eight worms. Just pick off the ones that dont have the wasp eggs on their backs.

goatlady is right. I get these things every year but I just walk my garden once a day and pick them off. Look for the worm droppings, usually the worm will be on the leaves directly above the droppings.

Spray with BT. The correct name is about two blocks long but all garden shops will just refer to it as BT. Bt is made from organic materials so you are not using harsh/poisionous chemicals. It is very effective on all types of worms.

Sevin dust, but that's a chemical method. Just pluck the little beasts off and smoosh 'em. No poisons that way.

Sevin dust is NOT safe!! It's very harmful to pets and will ruin your garden's natural ecosystem. Do it the old-fashioned way--pick & squish!
