The NFL will never become a world game because it is just too expensive for many countries.

American football will never be a world game. It's not as fun to watch as "soccer" or rugby because the game stops so often. There's not as much action in a game where they run for 30 seconds, get tackled, and the clock stops. Soccer and rugby are more continuous and require more stamina. The athletes are better. The world cup is so much more fun to watch than the superbowl.

It really comes down to TV, but the big drawback is you have to be basically big to play it. I could see basketball or baseball making bigger inroads outside the USA.
I do much prefer the NFL season and playoffs (bar the Uber Bore) to soccer's World Cup (and I actually like soccer...just not the 21st century version of thus) but rugby's World Cup rocks!
I think rugby really has it happening esp. in the Southern Hemisphere.

Rugby is alright but American Football is more strategic and the players are stronger and faster. and NFL players tackle hell of a lot harder than rugby players. I have spoken to rugby players who watch and play american football who agree that american football players tackle harder.
