Look at it this way-the people doing the hiring for the high paying jobs all needed to have a college degree to get their jobs, so they will not hire anyone who doesn't have one. They figure if they had to suffer through 4 years of college, then so shouldn't everyone else. Doesn't matter if you are considerably smarter than they are either.
