This is partially due to the fact that athletic prowess has well-defined cause-effect (lift weights = stronger arms) and most of its development, problems and resolutions are easy to be seen and understood.
It is more visible that an athlete has put in lots of practice and can now run faster, throw further, etc. On the other hand, a math student who has just mastered the quadratic equation; his effort and skills are not visible and are harder to appreciate.
As well, athletics is an entertainment industry; competitions are exciting to watch. How entertaining is a science fair? Unless you already have an interest, it probably isn't interesting at all.
Athletics can be understood and appreciated by everybody, but intellectualism (beyond genius displays of people who can multiply giant numbers and the like) can usually be appreciated by people who are intellectuals themselves and a few select other groups.

Intelligence is not something that can be obtained through training. So, since there are large numbers of not so bright people willing to pay to WATCH these highly trained people play games, other fairly smart people market the games, and merchandise, while the sheep are brainwashed through more marketing into thinking that being an athlete is something to admire, mostly because the players make a lot of money doing it. Sportsmanship was part of game at one time, but that seems to have given way to the money and hype. Baaaaa!

I agree w/ that other chick about the money thing. But since an athlete's talents are much more visible and widely viewed by the public, they get way more credit than they deserve.
A stupid man says little with many words and a wise man speaks volumes with very few. Those who deserve the most credit probably won't go so far as to seek it out.

For one, you putting forward that all and dissimilar christians putting Mary up in such extreme esteem is faulty. with the help of Christians you advise quite catholics. Many Christians like me imagine that Mary replaced into purely someone chosen with the help of God to undergo his son. She is significant yet she's now to not be idolized or positioned on an same element as God which i believe catholics do too a lot of. second you're saying the following and there women are pronounced as teptresses and prostituites. In a way, you answer your own question. the following and there is precisely maximum perfect, yet word that it is not everywhere. women's sins are positioned down purely as a lot as men's are. in actuality, men should be positioned down even extra. King David is a significant personality in the bible. He sought to be as on the threshold of God as achieveable. yet then faster or later, he slept with a lady (an i believe he cheated on is spouse and commited adultry) which replaced right into a sin. as a results of this one experience, God refused for him to construct a temple for him. rather his son Solomon ought to. also, God did not make women unequal to men. He made men the chief of the kin alongside with the girls and little ones.

Jocks are not dumb. They make tons of money playing games. Intellectuals are not always smart. They cannot solve the simple stuff like schools that teach, cars that run clean, health care for everybody, etc.,etc. etc..
