I'm trying to buy a gift for an adult woman, beginning swimmer, and swimming lessons won't do. So "gadgets and gear" is precisely what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Instead of investing in gadgets, sign up for a swim class with a professional instructor. Most swimming pools offer instruction, either in groups or on an individual basis. Good for you for taking on this challenge!

Hi there, I've been swimming competitively and giving swim lessons all my life - and I buy all my stuff at Kiefer online at www.kiefer.com. Check out that site and click the 'Learn to swim' link on the left. You'll find swimbelts for adults there.
Good luck!

No special gear needed. A kickboard might be useful, though, and you can get that at a sporting goods store or a discount store.
