Augusta Co., VA pays really well. It's not a lot of money really, but it is more than enough to pay the cost of living. I supported my husband our first year of marriage while he finished college. I get 100% paid benefits. I really can't complain about it.

While states like Connecticut and Alaska appear to pay much more than elsewhere, when cost of living is taken into consideration, the best teacher pay is actually in rural areas in poorer states.
This is because $30,000 goes a long way in a poverty region. $50,000 goes hardly anywhere when living in a state filled with people whose average income is twice as high.
The state I work in, New Mexico, starts new teachers at $30,000 (with no prior experience), and most veterans make around $40,000. There are excellent medical and life insurance policies.

This varies...of course ....in high crime areas they pay the most but you will need a full course of hand to hand combat lessons plus a concealed weapons permit. This just for pre school teachers because most pre schoolers in ghettos are like 14 years old and are having babies themselves. Expect the salaries to be ( with a masters in self defence) approximately $78,000 per year and as for housing there are alot of abandoned buildings you can claim from HUD for $1.

NY, California and Connecticut pay high salaries but the cost of living there is expensive. Texas pays good and the cost of living is low, even in big cities.

New York. average pay is >50k, benefits package incredible. Of course all the industry is leaving and property taxes are ridiculous (like $600/month for the average house.). People's republic of New York.

Well, I can't say that Georgia is at the top, but APS starts at 40k. The cost of living isn't that bad in Atlanta either.
