Let's get real you cannot get an unsecured credit card right after bankruptcy. Sure, you might get claims of unsecured credit cards from a financial company which is undesirable. You can only get a secured credit card, and don't fall for just any "secured" credit card.

1) Avoid financial companies (like Premier Bank, etc.). Opt for a major bank like Bank of America. Financial companies look bad on your credit report. Your bankruptcy is suppose to be the "nuclear bomb drop" to a cleanslate.

2) Go to Bank of America (or another major bank like Wachovia) and apply for a secured credit card. You have to put down a deposit (after all, it's a secured credit card) which should be at least $500.

3) Never go over 30% of your available credit ($150 is the maximum of $500).

4) Pay the entire balance off each month!

5) Repeat the process. In at least six months, you have shown the creditors that you are "reformed" and then that means you get your deposit back...then you will be upgraded to a classic Visa.

That's it! Sounds too good to be true, it isn't.

It's best to get a secured credit card after filing bankruptcy. It will prove your credit-worthiness, and not affect your credit score any further.
