Whenever people compare South Park and Family Guy, someone always says "family guy is sooo funny" and it ends there with no chance for retort. I get it, family guy is funny, but why is it better than South Park? Please do not answer if you are a middle schooler on a sugar high.

Hmm, a couple of reasons I can think of:
FG is less preachy than SP, it actually reminds me of old SP that was funny, and didn't have an agenda.
FG doesn't see SP as a competitor that they have to be judged against like SP does. You can have 2 high quality, yet different shows on the air and still both be funny.
Oh and Family Guy is sooo funny. I watch South Park now and Im waiting for the now famous cut away shots!

I think you're a little confused. Go home, watch the cartoon wars episodes of South Park and you'll see that you've been mislead all this time by the pointless and plotless, totally random Family Guy. South Park usually has some social satirical value...plus it's freakin' hilarious. Oh yeah, and Cartman could take down Stewie any time, any place.

Because the characters are more likeable on Family Guy ... While Peter and Quagmire may be jerks you still sort of root for them and like them where as on South Park they are all jerks and who cares if someone kills Kenny?... So the answer ... While they are both funny Family Guy's characters are more likeable and in many ways easier to relate to.

south park is more vulgar and that's why it's funny...
family guy is funny because of its absurdity and its critique on pop culture. there are a lot of references to the 80s and we relate to that....south park doesn't have that many reference.
