Al Swearengen is the unspoken chief of the camp and my favorite character as well. Followed closely by Sheriff Bullock and his quick temper. I love Trixie too because she's smart and sticks up for herself. My heart goes out to Jane and Doc, they are just trying to make it through the world. Sol Starr (John Hawkes) is divine as the voice of reason. Alma with her grace and confusion. All of the characters are so incredibly developed it is really hard for me to just pick one. Dan Dority because he is so loyal. How can you not love all of these characters?

Not counting Al...
I always thought Doc was the most decent person that lives in Deadwood, but he's been given less and less to do with each season. Guess that's why they seem to be killing him off.
Charlie Utter might be my favorite. But there's so many great characters.

Swearengen is certainly the best character - Milch really takes pleasure writing for him, it seems. But I am not sure he is my favorite.
I really, really liked David Carradine as Wild Bill Hickok. Although he was not a continuing character, he is probably my favorite one.
I am enjoying Gerald McRaney as Hearst. And I think Joanie is to die for - she is dropdead gorgeous.

Definately Swearingen. So much sh it revolves around his mood swings.
