Libraries are places where you can refer to and borrow books. In addition, they are providers of information generally, which includes things like CDs and internet access.
These days there are so many books that libraires only have some of the popular ones (particularly given they are desperately short of money). If you want something specific they will get it for you to borrow, but you will have to wait and there may be a small charge. If you want a book about a particular author, look up the catalogue, or ask a librarian for help finding one.
Few recent authors have got as far as having biographies written about them. Your best chance of finding out information about authors in the Sunday Times top fiction list is to search the internet.
A book is good if you enjoy it and it makes you think. Don't rely on what you read in other books. It is debatable whether knowing about the author is important for the merit of a book as a work of literature. This is a question you could ask about in relation to the book(s) your circle is discussing when you go to the meeting.

It's possible that the authors of the Sunday Times' top ten fiction books are too recent to have been written about in books. For an author to merit having a book written about them, they will need to have been around long enough to gain a good reputation and their work has to be of the type to interest academics. Even then, it will take someone months to write a book about them and then several more months are needed for the publishing process.
You're more likely to find articles about recent authors in newspapers, magazines and journals - maybe you could get your library to help you search through back issues of some of those instead of through their book catalogues.

Libraries are for collecting books and information in other forms, and making that information available for the greater good of that community. It is a place to borrow a good book, CD, DVDs, or even art. You can use the computers if you don't have one, and you can research to your hearts content at the Library. It is a place for parents to bring children to story time, and is a great place for children to develop a love of books and learning. It is a quiet place for study, reflection, or in the case of many middle schoolers - a place to meet a boy or girl friend. It is a place to pick up tax forms, or to learn about opportunities for personal enrichment. The Library is a vital part of any community.

Libraries are based on the social idealism of the 1930s. during the FDR administration. If you think about it, libraries are rooted in socialism and gives everyone an equal chance to read and enjoy books. Of course, it's the tax payers that foot the bill, but libraries are about community development and it's a center spot to unite any community.

We don't need to always read the new books. There's alot of the old books in the library that are great and inspired. So, just read what you like.
I guess if they have read it, then we understand that they know these new books are good, but if not that means they just repeat what others told them.

Well, libraries are for people to get books with out actually keeping them. This question is weird, its like asking "What are toilets for?" jk, but like any library to get books. Well, you can look up the books and read descriptions or something...or if you have time...read it.
