i live about an hour from san francisco in fremont, and it is across the bay but still in the bay area. i love san francisco and it is one of my favorite cities. san jose is awesome and im planning to move there in the near future.

San Francisco is one of the most picturesque cities in the U.S. Also, for it's size, it has an unusally large number of good restaurants.
The downside is that there's a hella lot of bums/drug-addicts on many street corners. Also, fringe groups think they own the place so you'll see some outrageous behavior that you wouldn't see at more "normal" places.

Tried to buy a house out there once. I was laughing at them until I realized that they were serious. I settled in the upper midwest. Twice the land for 1/4 the price.
