I am a very creative person and have many ideas on how various businesses could implement changes or new products that I believe would be very profitable. Even in my own small business I think of solutions for my clients but I usually need another company to implement the idea. How can I approach a company with an idea, being sure that if they implement the idea that I will get paid for it.

You can't.

I worked at Rockwell and a fellow came in with a patented "string trimmer" years ago. Nobody wanted to give him any money.

Take your good ideas and put them with hard work and get your own money. The other good ideas may help to foster your relationship with customers if you give them free.

I guess you didn't watch america's greatest inventor on tv.

Each company has a r&d department. If all your ideas are related to one product line, like snack food. That's where to go. Bad news is you may find out a lot of other people had the same idea

I am the same way. If you figure it out, let me know! One thing is for certain, write all of your ideas down now, and they are basically copyrighted right then and there (it will be beneficial to go through formal copyright eventually)...that way you are semi protected. Just make sure you can prove the date of when you created it. Probably should talk to an intellectual property attorney.
