My parents live in England and are over 70 and don't want to get into computers at their age. However it would be great if we could send pictures or mpegs or just messages to them from here in the US. I want to get them set up with an internet connection and computer....I know I can set up the computer and even repair it from here in the US using GoToMyPC or other remote program, so all I need to find out now is how much it will cost to set them up with an internet connection over there ...prefereably high speed. They live in Oxford (if it makes a difference) . Can you tell me the best/lowest cost service available there.
Thanks

Thanks Kewl Dude Ganda, My Old Man worked for BT for most of his life so I know what you mean ;o)
They are actually in Cowley, not Oxford if that makes a difference, and I don't yet know if they have cable...but I'll find out.

Good advice from a Geordie worker!

Hi, I work for BT Broadband and know a lot about ISP's and the costs.
You say Oxford, but are they out in the sticks, or close to an exchange with BT?
Also, and more important - is Cable available in your folks area?
Don't go for BT if cable is in area!!! (Sorry bosses - pls dont sack me for this).

Go for TELEWEST or NTL if possible. Do a search on the web by entering your parents fone number or postcode to find out if they can get it. Click links to check!

If they have to go through a BT ADSL line, I suggest an ISP such as in the following links:

http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/summarylist.asp

One I feel is a good one to subscribe to is 'madasafish' but I have not tried yet. There are many and competetive so check out the link and good luck. (Avoid BT like the plague!)

Go to this site to find out why BT is a pile of cr*p!:

http://btsuck.org/ and now you will see what I mean!

But don't get me the sack, please!
