Better crank? What are you wanting to do with the motor? Ambiguous question here. There are two types of cranks you can buy...forged and cast. Forged cranks are stronger than cast but are also more expensive. You'd find a forged crank in heavy duty applications, most likely a truck engine or racing motor. Most passenger cars will have a cast crank which is strong enough for even for mild performance applications. The stroke possibilities with a small block Chevy are numerous as long as the crank journals match the engine block. The 327 becomes a 302 with a 283 crank...the 350 becomes a 383 with a 400 crank (although there is some grinding on the block surfaces will be neccessary so the crank won't contact the block). Rod lengths come into play when changing crankshafts and the wrong piston/rod/crankshaft combinations will have the piston sticking above the deck height in some instances. Or too low a compression ratio in others. But exchanging one 350 crank with another won't require any mods. All this info is pretty much common knowledge and rebuilding a small block Chevy is so simple you wouldn't believe it. I've rebuilt over a dozen. Buy a simple book about "how to rebuild you small block Chevy" and grab some wrenches. This isn't rocket science.

if it's another 350 crank then no...if it's a 400 crank(making it a 383 stroker) then yes.

it would be a good idea to replace them. but it also depends on how you want to build your 350.
