Most of the name brand ones are at least 95 % accurate when they are taken correctly at least a couple of days after your period is due. A couple say that they can detect it before your period is due but that is not always the case because your HcG (pregnancy hormone) levels might not be high enough to be detected. To ensure the most reliable result, take the test first thing in the morning because that has the highest HcG level of the day.

Depending on the brand and how late you are would affect the accuracy of a test...
Pregnancy tests measure the HCG in your urine, Some brands need very little others need more

First responce usually is very good at detecting HCG in your urine even up to 5 days before your missed period.

I suggest checking out a few sites to see the measure of HCG that is needed to give a good positive result

Good luck

if taken correctly and at the correct time, most home tests are fairly accurate - but nothing is 100% except a blood test

early response test can be take 5 days before a missed period - it will not be accurate before that

a regular test needs to be taken after a missed period and will not be accurate before that

it is possible to get a false reading, but they usually are fairly accurate

Never failed me...8 times positive..but you always have that feeling that maybe it wasn't right..one time I did it three times..three different brands..they were always the same...but i know for some if you do it too early..you don't have enough pregnancy hormones or whatever in your urine for the test to detect..so try and hold out until you really have the clues that you are.

Very. Many times, if you tell the doctor you have taken a pregnancy test, they will not retest you. The bought tests are as good as in your doctor's practice.

it depends, sometimes they are accurate and sometimes they arent, i took four and all said negative until i was almost 2 weeks late and they said that i was pregnant,...but if you think you are you need to go to a doctor to get a real test and answer

i really do think it depends on which ones you get. you may want to try more than one. then see a doctor.
