Hi ladies,
I need help... I have been having some major concerns this past week. I am 21 years old and have been on the pill since age 15. Just last week I had sex with my ex (really stupid mistake) I am on the pill and did not let him do anything inside me since we are not together. I thought I was at least being responsible in that sense. I ended my period the day before we had sex. However, I have been having really strange symptoms that sound similar to pregnancy this week. I have severe lower abdomin cramping predominatly on my left side, lower and upper back ache, and now just recently bleeding both clotty and light, and cervical swelling. I am stressing myself out and took a pregnancy test today with a not pregnant result. There are are a few things that I can think that may contribute... early miscarriage, pregnancy (too early to detect), kidney infection, or an ovarian cyst (had one before that ruptured and don't recall this much bleeding), or an STD. PLEASE HELP! Much Thanks

I highly doubt that you are pregnant. I'd sooner think that you might have another cyst (especially with pain localized to one side). However, no one but a doctor can diagnose you. See your gynecologist for a definite diagnosis and any treatment that may be necessary.

I agree with the last answer, you really need to see a doctor. However, it does not sound to me like you are pregnant. If you just had sex last week, even if you got pregnant the fetus would not yet have implanted (it takes about two weeks if memory serves - that's why you have to wait to test positive) so even if the egg was fertilized, this wouldn't be considered a "miscarriage". If you are far enough along to have a miscarriage, then a pregnancy test should also show positive. I'm not a doctor here, I just have three kids and read a lot about pregnancy and implantation. I have never had a miscarriage, so I can't help much there beyond knowing its too early. If you bleed very (abnormally) heavily for more than an hour, start running a fever, feel dizzy or faint, or the pain gets worse, I would at least call your gynecologist to see what they say (they will have someone on call) and if you don't have one go to the emergency room.

I highly doubt that you are pregnant - you said you ended your period the day before you had sex - most people do not ovulate the day after their period - so you probably are not pregnant. A pregnancy test though wouldn't tell you yet - an early response test can tell you 5 days before a missed period and a regular test needs to be taken after a missed period - so, unless it has been that long, you won't get a true reading on a home test

Check with your doctor- but my best guess is you are not pregnant - Good luck!

The pill actually fools the body into thinking it is pregnant. Many women (I was one of them) experience similar symptoms to a pregnancy whilst taking the pill. From what you have said, I do not think you have anything to worry about. Perhaps the stress of things has thrown things off slightly. I would go get checked out for STDs. You may have an infection. Good luck.

Best thing to do is get checked hun.... and remember ... the pill dont protect you from STD's ... but a condom will at least be a good try at it... most home tests can give you the answer within 3 days of a missed period... but the best thing to do is get checked if you are really worried and next time.... keep the condoms handy till you know the guy really well... the old saying is true if you think of it... when you sleep with someone... you are sleeping with everyone they slept with and everyone they slept with and so on

Feel better soon hun I am sure you will be ok ... remember your mind can play funny tricks on ya too

I was going to say that you may have an STD, it is highly unlikely that you are pregnant if you had sex the day after your period ended and if you are on birth control (and taking it correctly). You should definitly go and see your gynecologist and rule out an STD or any other type of infection. Next time, make sure you are more careful, use a condom just to make sure you are keeping yourself safe and healthy...you never know where your ex has been and who he has been with!

Good Luck....

I'm afraid I must agree with the previous answerer. GO TO AN OB/GYN (a Dr. who specializes in female reproductive illnesses and abnormalities) Honey I am an old RN and no one on this web site is qualified to tell you what is wrong with you without a physical exam and the proper schooling and degree to go with it.

Unexplained bleeding is never normal nor OK. If it is very heavy or your cramping is very severe -- DON'T WAIT!!! you could be dealing with a tubal pregnancy. All things considered, with the bleeding and pain go to your local ER, they cannot refuse to see you based on your ability to pay or not if they receive any state or federal funds. Anyway. Please take care of yourself. Let me know how things turn out. (fatmamais50@yahoo.com) I will be thinking and praying for you!

If it was just the day after your period ended, you are most likely not pregnant. However if you are still having those symptoms you should see your doctor, because something must have mucked up your insides. I don't want to be too personal, but was it really rough sex? That could make you bleed, and make your cervix swell.

It's all in the mind, if u keep believing ur pregnant, ur bound to develop the signs of pregnancy. The mind controls the body. I would also say go 2 the doctor for that aching, rather be safe. Good luck

Head directly to the doctor. It doesn't sound like early pregnancy symptons to me. You need help and you need it now! If your period isn't due and you're bleeding that much, it means that something is wrong. I don't want to scare you but you need to get this taken care of immediately. If you don't have insurance, go to the local health department or to a planned parenthood.
