powder on your face is not supposed to show up, so it shouldn't make you look more or less sophisticated...it should make you more like you, without oily skin

None of the above. Go with an au naturale look. I do it every day, and people still mistake this 16 year old for 18+. If you pack on the make up, people will KNOW you're young an, well, not too sophisticated.
However, if you are in desperate need of cosmetics, I would recommend minimal mascara--not "heavy"--and a subtle shade of lipstick--you don't need to powder your face.

I'm going to agree. None of the above. Confidence is probably the best bet for a girl who'd like to look sophisticated. A classy wardrobe also might help.

Sophisticated....as in where? At a dinner party or a bowling alley? Red lipstick, heavy mascara and powered face.... sounds like gutterballs to me...

The only person i have seen look good like that is Christina Aguilera (with all 3), and even her would probably look better with less.
If I had to choose I would say some powder.

regular amount of mascara, definately--u will have long(or at least noticeable) lashes to bat at all the boys who smile at u!
red lipstick will make u look like u r from the60's--try sum victorias secret lip gloss--it rox!!!!!

I think the way the girl handles herself will make the biggest impact on whether she's considered sophisticated or not.
