If it wasn't for high school sports, I would have been very depressed going to school. Possibly to the point of killing myself.

This is a serious question that is being asked quite a bit in schools today due to budget constraints, etc. and requires a more serious response than just NO....

If coached properly sports continue the learning process beyond the school walls and teach kids more valuable life lessons that will benefit them in their future careers. Leadership is a trait that is often developed first in sports. Competitveness is a key attribute that keeps us working hard in our jobs every day, If we don't do a better job than Bill down the hall he'll get that promotion, if a High School Football tackle doesn't put in the extra time working out he'll lose his position similarly. Team building is one of the most important things that companies try to do today with their employees, that's one of the first thing that a sports coach will try to teach the kids.

I think sports are important to those involved and as long as their being coached properly, are an important fixture in our society and help to develop the youth of today into the leaders of tomorrow.

no of course not, for alot of kids that's the only exercise they get other than their thumbs and it keeps them with something constructive to do. if anything it should be moved into their curriculum, almost as a recess. they were given recess throughout their younger years where do they think all that energy goes? besides its a got form of motivation and good at teaching them self confidence, perseverance skills and so on.

If you do just remember you will be depriving many kids of the chance to go to college.
