Glenn traveled to space twice.

The first was in 1962 on Friendship 7 in the Mercury program. He was the first American to orbit the earth.

The second time was on the space shuttle Discover in 1998. He was not exactly a member of the crew this time, but a passenger who was set to determine the effects of microgravity on the aging. Glenn was 77 at the time of his flight.
