Napoleon might say, I wouldn't have allowed us to get in this mess.
As president, I'm not really interested in what NK's irrational assessments of my actions are. I'm hell bent on securing my national interests -- including SK. I see a connection between NK & Iran; plus some lunes in South America. Things are spinning out of control -- we have allied enemies that may become insurmountable if not stopped right now.
With Russia and others on NKs side, there's no time to bring in large ships & subs, w/o detection. We're left with bombers or senselessly sacrificing our men. So, bombers it is. A half-assed bombing run will kill many in SK. So, a relentless / brutal bombing it is.
The blood is on ILL's hands. The blood will be on his side, unless we continue to twiddle our thumbs.

Honestly?
Nothing. N.K. is not a threat! Yet! They can't even feed their own people let alone engage in a war with the U.S. of A.
They don't have the firepower to threaten anyone except maybe South Korea and Japan.
Keep an eye on 'em wait while to see what China and Russia will eventually do and if they don't get back in line, then pressure the U.N. for sanctions.
Just because they say the have a Nuke doesn't mean the have the capability of using it effectively.
One could have a .44 magnum but if you can hold it steady and aim it at the target it's not going to do you any good and could quite possibly be detrimental to you.

Continue with diplomacy. The nukes are dangerous; even if it blows up over there, the cloud will drift here just like Chinese pollution can make it to Los Angeles.
Kim Jung Il will not live much longer; no sense in letting young soldiers die for the sake of an old crackpot. The next leader of NK will be better; no question about it! So I say use diplomacy to stall until "The Hair Club Poster Child" buys the farm.

Randy is right. Push China and push Russia too. Russia is talking out of both sides of its mouth. And I thought Condee was supposed to be a Soviet specialist. I think the problem will remain as long as North Korea is so isolated from much of the world. I think it's very troubling.

I'd get as many world leaders as I could to back me up and I'd threaten N. Korea with economic sanctions. I try my best diplomacy with China and Russia. They seem to be people N. Korea would most listen to. Especially China.

I wouldn't be worried about China or Russia. I'd just find out what the mental deterioration is of Kim Jong Ill, because whatever it is, it's rapidly making him stupid.
Neither Russia nor China approve of what N. Korea has done. So no worries there.

Continue as President Carter did with peace making efforts as much as possible. I know they are a "tough crowd" But a president must be able to stand up to that...so who would be the best person, besides Hillary Clinton, to do that? Maybe somebody who never complained about being kicked out of his own country but tried to make peace with them? Maybe someone like the Dali Lama? Well, I'm sure he wouldn't take the job if it were offered...but he is the kind of example I am talking about. That is the kind of leadership we need here, not war mongering over oil like we got now from a drunken frat boy.

Start being nice to them. The reason they're so defensive is because the US has 30,000 men planted on their border pointing guns at them, plus destroyer boats just over the horizon, and spy planes flying overhead and on and on. N. Korea isn't bothering the US like that at all, what does the US expect? I think the US is cooking up an excuse to own the place, Iraq style. The US just doesn't know how to be nice to people.

I would put pressure on China to pull the carpet out from under North Korea. China is on the verge of an economic boom unlike the world has ever seen. If you threaten that, which we could, then they will protect their interests.

sanctions are choking the country,,, but I don't think an all out act of war is necessary right now,, since we are already in fighting two wars,, the one in Afghanistan as a retaliation for the acts of 9-11 and Bush's war in Iraq for,,, WMD,,, to topple Saddam, the evil dictator,,, to spread Democracy,,, to fight them there so we don't have to fight them here,,, whatever his reasoning,,, it was based on lies,,, and it was wrong,,,, I wish the USA had just choked Iraq,,,,,,,,,,,,
