Okay, a rectangular pyramid is just a square and four triangles of equal size, right? So the area of the square is...

base * base

The triangles are one half base times height...

1/2 * base * height

And there are four of them, which means their combined area is...

2 * base * height

Add those to the square, and you get the surface area:

(2 * base * height) + (base * base)

There are rectangular pyramids and prisms. The area of a prism is length time width times height. I forget the pyramid formula.

Side times side = area. Side times side times height, the product divided by two = volume.
