Before you do this, turn off power to the light fixture at the breaker box, or unplug the fixture if it is a lamp or similar. Don't just depend on turning off the light at the switch or wall switch.

Once the power is off, take a potato and cut it in half. Jab the potato onto the broken base of the bulb, and unscrew the bulb.

You could also use pliers to grab hold of the metal base of the bulb, and unscrew it, but be very careful. Electricity can be deadly, and pliers are made of metal. Metal and electricity won't mix well.

Make sure the power is turn off to the fixture. Take a potatoe, cut it in halh, press the sliced side into the socket, and truen counter clockwise until the metal end of the bulb comes out. Be sure to let the socket dry before replacing the bulb.

Theoretically you are supposed to be able to do things like jam the butt end of a candle and twist. I usually just take a long nose pliers and grab onto the base of the bulb and turn it out. And Yes, this IS safe if you know what you are doing. The screw threads are the neutral wire so it should be perfectly fine to latch onto that part. The key word is "should". With all the idiots doing their own wiring you never know what to expect.

I never turn the power off and I've never blown myself up once yet. I've even replaced switches and receptacles with the electricy on just to see if I could do it. it's so much fun. Sometimes there is a shower of sparks and that just fires the adrenaline level and adds to the excitement.

I can't believe all these people wasting perfectly good potatoes to get a light bulb out.

First of all Turn the power off to the light at the circuit breaker or pull the fuse to the light which ever you have, then check the circuit to make sure it is dead, when you are sure the power is off , simple way is to use a half a potato to remove the broken bulb,

did the glass wreck? or did basically the glass come out? if it fairly is the 1st, do because of the fact the others have stated. if it fairly is the 2nd; turn off the breaker or unscrew the fuse, or unplug the lamp. get a pair of needle nostril pliers and grip the fringe of the steel base, taking care to no longer grip the socket, bend in extremely and then twist counter clockwise. i examine that maximum folk turn bulbs in too tightly, and in so doing bending the midsection button interior the socket. that outcomes in us having to teach the hot bulb in even tighter to get a reliable connection. desire this permits, reliable success, and chuffed trip journeys!!!

well it really helps if you are absoulutly sure the power is off or can figure out which breaker it is but once you figure that out a small potato cut in half can be forced onto glass center of bulb and used to turn a large potato will usually sit into glass shards but can break them off leaving u to try smaller potato of course i just turn off breaker and use pliers to grab side of socket
