some don't like it but most of it is getting into the mainstream because of rap videos and so on....so some will like it and use it.

While not White, I've never emulated "ghetto" talk. I talk like me. I use slang appropriate to my audience. I use grammar. I use syntax, context, and proper spelling. I talk intelligently when I wish to be heard, understood, and taken seriously. That is probably why "white people" don't like "ghetto", it's a sign of ignorance and poor schooling. To some, it is offensive that you cannot learn to articulate your ideas in a way understandable to the general public. "Ghetto", while good for friends and those that know you, is not a proper "dialect" for interviews and strangers. You set yourself up for stereotyping (much like those that speak "Native American English"-- halting and saying "how" and all that b.s.).
Fun Fact:
ghet·to
n. pl. ghet·tos or ghet·toes
1.A section of a city occupied by a minority group who live there especially because of social, economic, or legal pressure.
2.An often walled quarter in a European city to which Jews were restricted beginning in the Middle Ages.
3.Something that resembles the restriction or isolation of a city ghetto: “trapped in ethnic or pink-collar managerial job ghettoes” (Diane Weathers).
[Italian, after Ghetto, island near Venice where Jews were made to live in the 16th century.]
Don't know about you, but I certainly don't want to be associated with a Ghetto
and not to pick, but the Freedom of Speech is the right to say whatever you want without fear of persecution from society or government. It is not necessarily the right to say it however you wish. If you want to make a new language, that's fine. Understand, however, that at this moment, lots of people are wanting to require proper English for immigrants. Your cause to create a new language will face stiff opposition. Not to mention the serious barriers you unnecessarily place between yourself and the general public. But you do what you want. You have the Right to Pursue Happiness.

Ah, the generalazations made by some people are amazing. Most white people do not want to talk ghetto - I talk like a white person and teach my children to speak the right way as well.

Excuse me.....I beg your pardon. I do not wish to sound or talk ghetto at all. It has got to be the worst form of any english language around. And while we're at it.....why do 99% of blacks pronounce....ask......as....axe. But, I know you'll put down others of your own race and say they're just trying to sound white.....you'll never give in to the fact that they just know how to speak properly. And, then you be wondrin why you be stereotyped.

I don't care how black people talk. I'm white and talk country as hell but I have several black friends that talk "ghetto" as hell and it dont bother them and their way of talking dont bother me. I dont want to talk ghetto the same way most black people don't want to talk country. You must be meaning to direct this questionn to the rich "cool" white kids that still wear FUBU.

Is dialect assigned to any one race? It is a fact that if you are around a group of people often (a group of people who speak in a manner similar to one another) enough that you will start to sound like them.

What makes you think they want to talk like you? Sure there are some "wannabes" (on both sides, like Oprah and Bryant Gumbel), but can we call all of you "wannabes" for speaking English? After all, you're "talking like us".
