Are there any people out here who have met their soulmates?.......Be it a husband/wife/friend or anyone else for that matter, as I am under the impression that you can have just a friend who is a soulmate...so without giving names....discribe your soulmate to me....tell me what you see within them....discribe them on the inside, and tell me what you love/like/admire/apreciate most about them...?
Thank you!

My friend Eddie came into my life forty-seven years ago when I was only sixteen. He sort of rescued me from an alcoholic father and a rather upside-down home situation. He introduced me to books, mountain climbing, photography, classical music, and a lot of the finer things in life. Now, forty-seven years later, I was reading your question and realized Eddie is my soulmate. Not in the conventional sense, but as someone who is "on the same wavelength" as I am, personally. Deep down, we understand each other. We don't fight nor argue. We just live very well together with our two cats Johann and Scooter. Eddie stayed by me during my drinking years (which ended over fifteen years ago, Thank God). He is patient. A Leo. I am volatile and get upset too easily. I am Cancerian. On the inside, Eddie is an old soldier. He is 84 years old. He was in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. I am 63, and the biggest thing I can brag about is not drinking any more. Seriously, we have been living very well for ages. Compatibility is first and foremost. We usually know what the other is thinking. As he gets older and is closer to leaving this world, I just would like to add it is a pleasure to attend to his needs. When he is gone, I will look back and realize what a magnificent human being has shared so many years of my life. In closing, I can only hope many of you who are reading this will meet someone who will strike that inner chord within your heart and bring forth loyalty, strength, compassion and love that will last a lifetime. Only this year did I really begin to realize how fortunate and blessed I have been in this life to have known such a special human being. I look to him as a "National Treasure." Thank you for letting me have my say. Sent with love from Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A.

I used to believe that the idea of a "soulmate" was just female speak for "someone who obeys me." Then I found her. We rarely argue. When we do we do not get hateful or mean or take anything personal. We make each other laugh. I can be away for weeks at a time on a business trip and I know that she thinks of me and I only think of her. I cannot imagine ever being with anyone else. I cannot say there there is anything specific about her that is great, but I just feel connected to her very deeply.

And in case anyone is wondering, I am 42 years old and we have been together for 10 years and I still feel the same way about her as I did 10 years ago. That is what surprises me most. I would not have told you that we were soulmates then, but time has been good to us and we have been good to each other.

A sudden contact seems to take you to a different plane of experience, logic seems to be totally out of place, and yet no way to believe that the person you met or have not even met in person seems very familiar (like some unexplained far past familiarity ) ! This time, they need not even be friends ! They are acceptable even as adversaries ! No action is really prescribed to match the inner feelings. The most admirable thing 'seems' to be they have kept up some forgotten commitment to 'meet' (independent of the manner prescribed by the present situation !).
Really not a place, this one to describe these things, because we try to restrict to only logically convincing statements, with a passing reference to those with deeper urge !

I think the word "soul" in the phrase "soul mate" would be the translation of the Hebrew *Ruach*, not of *Neschamah* (this rather means "spirit"). The Ruach is centered in Tiphareth, i.e., in the heart chakra. The love for one's soulmate is, therefore, an affair of the heart.

"Energy (*shakti*) arises in the sexual chakra. From there it ascends into the heart chakra, where it is transformed into love. It is the shamanic healing power. If the energy climbs higher, into the forehead chakra, the love-energy is transformed into awareness."
[Maile Lama, in "Shamanism and Tantra in the Himalayas".]

It is this last transformation which Nietzsche refers to when he writes that "even your best love is only an enraptured simile and a painful ardour. It is a torch to light you to loftier paths." [in Thus Spake Zarathustra, Of Child and Marriage.]

This is the essence of tantra. The sexual energy is *aufgehoben*, to say it in German. This is usually translated as "sublimated", but means both "elevated" and "abolished". It is sublimated into love, and this love in turn is the key to enlightenment, to the supreme elevation of the shakti, to spiritual awareness, which is the love and active contemplation of the Source.

no such thing as a soulmate.
I think a lot of girls believe in that stuff...it's romantic and a nice thought but totally unrealistic and a bad thing to invest in.

Isn't a lovely idea? And yes, if you're very, very lucky ... or patient.

That's a great avatar, by the way.
