like world cups where they are the only country that plays in them, the only english speaking country that spells words wrong but profess they are right i.e. it is colour, centre, mum, favourite etc.

I know I am opening up a big can of worms here and there is a lot of patriotic sentiment I am going to come up against, I also know I am gerenalising but hey, this is the general feeling towards the USA out there! the one thing that really stumps me is the spelling, why is the USA the only country to spell words differently?!

I am not European.
Just for those posters who said America is THE BEST ... your health system and education systems are falling to peices, where I am if you are sick and have no money you are not turned away from a hospital for not having insurance, the government pays for your care 100% and our schools are not supported by corporations as they are too poor. We are not a nation with high illiteracy rates, we are not a sick nation, an obese nation, a hated nation... how is it that you feel you are the best?

Ummmm . . . huh? I think that you need to check your source. I'm an American and proud to be one but I don't feel that this is the only country in the world and I'm certain that I'm not the only one to feel this way. As for the spelling, that is how we spell words in this country (along with other words that are spelled differently). You may want to stop making statements without facts to back them up.

I'm an American and I don't think we are the best country in the world. We are just different. We think different, we spell different, we speak different. We love our country.
Freedom of religion. I thank God to live in a land that we can afford food, and stay healthy, because their are many countrys that don't have that privolegde; and I can say many Americans takes advantage that. That's what makes America, America.

Wow, I think you're generalizing a bit here. Not ALL Americans feel that way. Yeah, sure there a bunch of pigheaded folks in the US, but there are just as many jerks in every country. The easy way out is to make mass generalizations. It takes a bit more to look beyond the stereotyping.
