People who have to identify themselves with a group to achieve status in the eyes of others, or insecure people.
People who are toxins to the rest of us, devisive, seeing themselves as "better" or that the bathroom never smells after their visit.
I think contests and society encourages this through psychology and insistutions. Psychology, asks us to label or identify ourselves wo we know "who we are." That means how am I different than others, if it doesn't mean that, you must simply be a product of your environment, which is weak.
Contest say some are more beautiful than others, stronger, and so on. Companies use divisions to brand themselves different than the competition, and market research divides us more. My point is the mindset to set ourselves apart from others is ingrained in the US society. Look at religious denomination splits in history.
My dad had a Mason funeral. Masons to him was a group of very nice and moral people. People like to think of themselves like this. I bet that people in exclusive groups like the identity because they lok down on the rest of us, which makes them somehow superior (obvious?).
The funny thing to me is that these divisions seem to put walls up which prevent forms of "love" to be extended to others, but thats okay because I belong to this group who let me in since I am a good person...as far as they know.
I laugh at exclusive groups. The members as a blanket gross generalization think in a foolish way.

People in their mid 20's and 30's 'shouldn't' have the need for group acceptance. By this time (past the high school crowd years) we are supposed to be mature free thinking folk. If you ever took psychology (or even just think in terms of common sense) why would a group of women feel as though they need to hover around peers? There is nothing wrong with having friends and doing things together...don't get me wrong...I ain't 'hatin'. But come on...LIVE A LITTLE...go to the mall by yourself or with your kids or something. lol

Most people do, but not intentionally or maliciously like happens in Jr. High. Sometimes, you just find a group of people that you're comfortable with and like to hang out with. There's really nothing wrong with that.
