Imagine travelling through a black hole to a parallel universe, where everything else is exactly the same, except the people who live on their planet are asexual beings. Male and female, yes, but conception occurs between parents simply because they will it. They do not have sex. For one reason or another, people here do not use sex in any way, shape or form. Nope, not even masturbation. Zero sex. I KNOW it's not possible; it's just a hypothetical question. Describe their society. Is it better or worse than ours? How do they communicate with one another, and foster intimacy with one another if sex is not possible? How about their economy? What do they sell if they can't rely on the old "sex sells" rule? Get creative! Spend more than 2 seconds on this one, folks! :) And I know it's tempting to jump to conclusions about a person who would ask this, but lets try to keep our eye on the ball, alrighty? lol That's what my 360 page is for. Well? Anyone?

"Your obsession with sex is interesting." Ain't it, though?

So far everyone seems to have assumed that people would be emotionally distant. Is sex actually necessary to deeply connect (emotionally) with another human being? Or is everyone assuming that love and sex are inextricably linked? I'd just like to know what the world might be like if we didn't have to deal with the constant bombardment of sex in the media, if we didn't have to deal with people's confusion at dealing with their own sexuality, the obsessions (rapists, sex addicts, child molesters, etc), and the hang-ups (prudishness, religious extremity, all the notions that sex is "dirty" or "sinful", etc)... Just how screwed up is the world because we're all so preoccupied with S-E-X?

Great question, gets the imagination ticking :D:D:D

No sex!!! Boy, I bet they'd get some work done, just imagine all that energy converted in work, learning bla bla bla...
Become parents simply because they will it?
Then they are both sexes so no need for two to adjoin in conception ;)
Maybe they become one-like we do in sex, through electromagnetism, a transferring of electron energy from one being to the other. We require two for sex and the transferring of fluids for the conception but what if it could be done by '1' and the others electromagnetic energy.....
Their society would be better than ours because if all were both sexes it would elliminate infedility, sexual diseases and many more that are created from sexually originated mutations and further mutations through generations (that are passed down)
Telepathy would be the means of communication if it was electromagnetic energy and there must be a tuning in system too, just imagine being able to hear the EVERYBODY? There must be two tuning in systems with telepathy, one in and one out because you would have the ability to talk to 'one' you wouldn't want to hear all would you, or talk to all at once- it'll drive ya nuts!!!!
It's like everybody would have a radio station that you tune into........lol

that was a good question.

Imagining a society without sex but all else like humans.then i would say that it would have been a very violent society.apart from all the procreation stuff what sex actually does is that it actually channels energy .and pschological profiling have shown that almost all criminals(read seriall killers.rippers,an almost all violent criminals when they do the act of crime, the high they feel is similar to Orgasm) .what do they call it projection of libido or some thing like that

so all vent up energy coupled with lack of inimacy . what a violent society it would have been. and about selling . It would only take a good orator a speech. These people would have a mob mentality.so instead of sex based advs. their advertemints would be like speeeches where one orator would argue the merits of one product and denounce others and urge the people to buy this or that.and speking of this another thought comess to my mind. The celibrities of there would be people who are good at public speaking...

somuch for that. and according to freud every thing humans do rises from the sexual argue ,if you think that way may be these people would also be de motivated people with sucidal tendencies

Sex, as the 1980s, have brought to our eyes is suppose to be a rejuvenating process that balances hormones like oxytocin and dopamine.
Back in the 1800-1900s doctors classified crazy women with "hysteria" and prescribed 'mid-wives' to come and masterbate their
woman back into reality because the wife never had any sexual release (no orgasm).

I dont need to go into the practicalities of a non-intercourse world or the chemistry behind it.
I do need to say though that sex isnt just intercourse its holding one another.. its intimacy.
To say sex has gone away would basically say that people have lost intimacy.
This world also loses its drive for the meaning of life (procreation and living).
It becomes a cancer just eating dieing consuming... growing out of control... past the solar system... in pods that cary our genetic code.

This removes identity (assuming they are stable with loss of intimacy) and would require a socialist society with an interconflict with procreation with another individual of their chosing. Individualism v socialism... hmmm much like church and individual. A checks and balances if you will.

This society would have to be highly religious to focus the energy elsewhere.

sex would still sell...
its our history ;)

goodluck,

yes besides what others said, they don't know sex, well they don't really care ...but i guess that would bee a world, without aids, child molesters, no abortions, no teen mums, no prostitution..i could go on and on..BUT i guess if they 'work" the way we do, they would find a way, to substitute sex..with something else, and they do have other problems, there economy would work OK, cause they are selling new machines, to produce new baby's in there home like " this is new XWBABYGET 2008, you get better and smarter kids, cause they must have another way to multiply themselves don't they???? , they don't have really intimacy like we do, there more technically, there standards are based on micro ships and power tools, and yes i do believe there are happier then we are, cause our worldly standards are dropping down cause of sex rules etc. they would bee just very sopisticated, more clean ...i guess

If there were no sex, then we wouldn't miss it since we wouldn't know about it. There could be something else by a different name, that we may enjoy just the same. Or we could just all sit and stare at each other. But there may not be millions of people if there wasn't sex. We could maybe reproduce a-sexually. (You know not needing a partner) I think that's what A-sexually means.
I would hate to think there would be no sex. People need intimacy, and need to feel close. So just be glad we don't reproduce A-sexually. ---something to think about.

it would be no problem...if there was no such thing as sex then that means all the things that go with sex wouldn't exist. I wouldn't have the urges that come with sex...if I don't have the desires then who cares about sex.
The only thing that makes sex necessary is the need for us to reproduce and all the urges that come with puberty (testosterone production...sperm production)
Take that away and I'll be fine.
The question would be how would we reproduce...A-sexually

A recent study by Professor Tim Spector of St Thomas’ Hospital in London has revealed that there is a strong genetic factor involved in infidelity by women. More than one in five has been unfaithful to a long-term partner, while 90 per cent have confessed to having thought about it. It does not say how many women were assessed in the study but if it is anything to go by than we must assume from this and many previous studies that female sexuality is very strong and needs honest stimulation, gratification and stimulation. As still stimulation can not be provided by one man, the husband who gets tired and bored over the years, but by a stimulating environment of naked men and women.

Another good indicator of the liberal attitude of women to nudity and sex in Britain today are the soft porn magazines which you can buy by the dozen every fortnight or even every week. These magazines are full with pictures of real wives and girl friends that yearn to have their naked pictures published and admired by all the men and women reading them. A great number of all these women actually invite the tens of thousands of readers nationwide to contact them for personal sexual encounters.

This is a clear example that there are tens of thousands if not hundred of thousands of women are desire by their very nature not only to be photographed naked but with the agreement of their husbands and partners to engage in countless sexual encounters over the decades of their lives.
