Unfortunately these days I have found that teenagers have to grow up alot quicker due to society and its ways. When i was a teenager we would be making our own fun climbing trees, sleeping outside under the stars with our friends, leaving our doors and windows open at night. Then one night everything changed we were told no sleeping out side lock all windows no walking alone anymore. There was alot more freedom and trust and teenagers acted like teenagers these days teenagers are more like young adults not children, it almost seems like our children are loosing the best days of their lives. sad really!

to be honest i was a rebelious teen (i am 21 now) however i think teens now days have become more affected with sex and drugs. Here in nebraska its almost unheard of to be a virgin or not try drugs by the age of 14. Its crazy how things change and i thought i was bad.. Now days its cell phones all over the other day i seen a 8 yr old talking on the cell phone to someone at the mall, i didnt get a cell phone till i was 16 and i paid for it myself. I think parents now days are to easy on there kids if i was there mom i would beat some AZZ thank god im not!

I think the opportunity to communicate to a world wide audience through the internet is the main difference between the 1970's and today's teens.
The internet makes it possible to not only write but talk and see others from the convenience of your home. This makes not only printed sources but personal experience knowledge available right at your fingertips.
This site is just one of many examples of what I'm talking about. Too bad the written skills of today's youth are lacking in grammar and spelling. But that's the beauty of the internet, anybody, no matter what educational background can gain access to others by using the internet.

Teenagers today have more access to information than when I was a teenager. They may have the knowledge of more things but not necessarily the wisdom to deal with them.

The main difference is that I didn't grow up with gameboys, xbox's, nintendo's and my parents were allowed to bust my butt when I needed it. Parents today are afraid to discipline their kids like we were diciplined when we were kids, that alone has lead to a lack of disrespect of parents in todays society. Todays teens have name brands thrown at them like rotten tomatoes and they buy into it and the peer pressure. I'm not saying we didn't have peer pressure when we were kids but good grief this is crazy today.

Todays teenagers have no respect for laws or adults. When I was young, we may have harrassed adults & cops, but when it came to face-to-face confrontations, we backed down.
Todays teens don't respect themselves or anyone else!!

Too many kids are getting on myspace and acting immature. This wasn't happening before and I think this whole generation will grow up thinking they are invincible online, which will only create problems.

When I was a teen we respected our elders. Teens of this generation don't seem to care how they talk to their elders, and have little or no respect for them. They think they are already adults, and have little or no skills to back that up.
