I have wireless at my moms house without a WEP code. But at my Dads house they have wireless but it needs a WEP code. I type in the code and it still says unable to connect. I am sure it is the right code. I have a Dell inspron 6000.

You need to make sure your dad's network is set up to take additional computers. If he secured it with WEP he may have also disabled DHCP so you wouldn't get an IP address. On top of that the router may be set up so that every MAC address trying to connect has to be registered before access is allowed.

It might not be the network key, it may be that your laptop may not support the type of encryption the wireless network is configured on. If it is WEP encryption, the key should be something like eight characters depending on the degree of encryption. You should check your wireless settings and make should your authentication method is exactly the same as what is configured on the network. If it is configured correctly, the key provided should work. If the network key you are using is like a password comprised of just words, called a passkey OR pass phrase, it is not WEP encryption, but probably WPA-PSK network authentication with TKIP data encryption. Your wireless adapter must support the encryption type to work.

You need to contact your ISP for the settings in order to configure your wireless router. They will setup for you over the fone, and Bingo - you will be online.
Better still - if you can get online with another PC, follow the links below:
