Why, if I object to Islamic extremes, should I have to accept being called a racist (which inherently I am not)? I regularly feel insulted by this savagery.

Assuming that you are white and considering the fact that most of the world's adherents of Islam are, in fact, Caucasian, your objection couldn't possibly be remotely racist. Regardless of your ethnicity or race, however, this is an opinion regarding an extreme faction of a religion. Religion, like ethnicity, hasn't a thing to do with race!

You're not a racist, you're a stereotyper. To stereotype is to make of an ethnic group, and Islam extremists are not a race, they are an ethnic group, but don't fret. Many Americans these days stereotype about extremists, so it's okay. You tell those people with pride that you are not a racist, you are a stereotyper and even politicians make fun of Islam extremists. The nerve of some people.

I don't think that you could be considered a racist simply because you do not align with the beliefs of islamic extremism (fundamentalism?). Racism is defined as intolerance of a race of individuals (which usually involves the use of sterotypical thinking, such as all people of color are lazy, or, all individuals who are Jewish are greedy, etc.). Objecting, or agreeing to disagree with one's view is perfectly normal, in my way of thinking. I don't feel that you should have to accept these views, obviously you may have talk with some people with some strong (dogmatic?) beliefs.

If you object to Islamic extremists that is natural. Now if you say you object to the religion of Islam that if different. It's still not racism; that's ignorance or fear of the unknown & misunderstood.

Prejudice is the word for not liking someone or people because of their affiliation, sex, age, religion etc... It refers to racism also but that comes with it's own consequences.

Racism is not bias, or predjudice. It is the belief that race accounts for differences in human character caused by the power of one culture over another. If you are white like me, you are racist not because you choose to be, but because our culture is geared toward white people (at least in America). First to get a job, first to graduate because tests are geared toward your culture, and of course last to be followed in a J.C. Penny amongst scores of other issues. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you are not a bigot or are predjudiced against a specific culture. Just recognize racism for what it is and try to avoid it.

you don't have to ACCEPT being called anything. and never parenthesize and apologize for feeling one way or another.

because no individuals feeling or beliefs will WHOLLY be accepted be any other individual, so don't defend that you are "inherently not" something because each person will make the decision of whether or not you are based on there own prejudices and experiences.

Because you narrow your opinions to islamic extremes, why not also include extremists of other ethnic groups and religions?

Yes, you must.

It comes with the territory.

Brilliant people often experience violent opposition from mediocre minds.

That's a paraphrase. Couldn't remember exactly how it goes.
