Fall out shelter signs used to be everywhere. I beleive the Civil defense got Govt. money to keep them stocked with food and water.... are there shelters like that around anymore? If so is there a list or a map on the internet?

I'm not sure. But my former, very liberal boss bought some land out in the country a couple years ago. I happened to discover he was looking into building a bomb shelter. It made me laugh, and it still does.

I think the bombs got bigger and "better" and at some point, probably in the 70s, even the good fallout shelters wouldn't protect you from the bombs, so they stopped bothering...

They are still around. I've seen the old signs throughout New York City.
