I would have to go with 'unstable' ... There are a lot of theories on this one... some believe that the big bang that created this universe wasn't the first big bang...
Look at how all the galaxies in the universe are all spreading out from the same point of origin... what goes up, must come down... and that's why they think this big bang wasn't the first... the universe will eventually collapse on itself creating a dense mass of matter and energy... which would be highly unstable, causing another explosion or 'big bang' ...

A universe collapsing in order to merge entirely before the Big Bang then expelled it all again. Every reaction is caused by an action. There is no logical reason that all would be void previous to the Big Bang. Though, for an interesting concept, look up the ancient Egyptian theological basis of Nun, the chaotic waters from which all things stem; much more interesting than some godly brainstorm by a bored diety.
