1. Possibility of personal freedom and civil rights
2. Citizen participation in goverment/Government by the people
3. Legitimate and transparent goverment, lawmaking, and leadership
4. Representation of different interests and values in government and lawmaking.
Dictatorship is Bad:
1. Leaders are unaccountable to the people they govern
2. Arbitrary use of force and power possible
3. Often dominated and driven by a single ideology that may not include or allow dissenting viewpoints (i.e. Nazism).
P.S. If you are young and don't know what some of those ideas or words mean, don't use them in your essay because you might get in trouble!

As Devo put it, do you want freedom of choice or freedom from choice? Freedom of movement? Freedom of thought? Freedom of speech? Freedom of religion?
Check out the US constitution and the Bill of rights. It sums it up rather nicely.
