I have a relative who is extremley overwieght and is in VA now ambalance here now refuses to give him any furher service. Can they do this legaly?

if a unit that is dedicated to the obese is unavailable or doesn't exist, no they can not refuse they can call their dispatcher for additional lifting help. when this happens in our rural / small town volunteer service, dispatch will tone for lifting help and either volunteer firemen or other rescue squad members immediately show up. anything less is unacceptable

Yes. If the persons weight cannot be supported by the vehicle. Special emergency vehicles are made for extremely overweight people. Check with the director of the hospital. They should have this information on file, or be able to obtain it. If not, contact the operating company of the ambulance.

Probably. This is especially true if their ambulance doesn't accommodate the morbidly obese. There are actually special ambulances with a winch and pulley system to accommodate them.
